I think about this every year but this trend of American Christmas movies where characters act like Christmas is being forgotten/no one cares about it anymore/it’s dying and needs to be saved/etc while the whole country has been flooded with Christmas since Halloween really is a perfect example of how (mainly white) American Christians always see themselves as the victims and persecuted minorities no matter what.
“Nobody believes in Christmas anymore! We need to save it!” Okay well I’ve been hearing songs about Jesus in grocery stores since November 1st so forgive me for my doubt.
“historically people had servants” incorrect. historically people WERE servants, and many of us still are.
I feel like people try to explain how [historical figure] had all the time to do so many Great Accomplishments and thus go “it’s because they had servants”. Which is true. But then leave it at that rather than continue on to the more important point that the servants actually often were as tired and overworked and unable to have time for themselves as so many of us are. “People lived this way because they had servants” okay and how were the SERVANTS living???
i think it’s really fun when a rly specific trope is super popular in one particular medium but in other ones it’s just totally unheard of. it’s the time knife. visual novel players are suuuuper used to death games but many others encountered them for the first time in squid games. the other day my mom showed me all excited the summary of a super original novel she found and it was about a girl who got reincarnated as the main character in her favorite fantasy book
